GLAMOUR Tries: We put the L’Oreal Steampod 4 to the test, so does it really straighten hair 3x faster with 80% less damage?

There’s no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there’s nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don’t *actually* work.

Enter: GLAMOUR Tries, the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.

We’ve been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the YSL lipstick printer to Il Makiage’s iconic foundation and even the viral Hair Bedazzler tool from Amazon. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.

Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won’t need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We’re getting in there first, giving you the lowdown and ensuring you invest in products that genuinely work.

And this week, our Creative Producer Chrissie Moncrieffe decided to try out the L’Oreal Steampod 4 to see if it lives up to the hype. “It’s said to straighten your hair 3 times faster with 80% less damage,” Chrissie explains.

Having launched just a few months ago, the L’Oreal Steampod 4.0 Steam is not your average hair straightener. It’s a versatile styling tool that’s designed to effortlessly style your hair using less heat. It features unique steam technology as well as wider ceramic plates for easier straightening and an improved ergonomic design.

“I needed about two to three passes to get it completely straight,” she adds. “I then tried it on a huge section of hair and that worked really well. I was really surprised that it could do that much at once.”

As she compares the styled section of her hair to the rest, she points out the following: “It straightens really well and I feel like there’s a lot less heat damage involved, it’s just that it didn’t get as close to the roots, so it’s a little bit puffy,” she concluded.
