There’s no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there’s nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don’t *actually* work.
And that’s where GLAMOUR Tries comes in: the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.
Yep, we’ve been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the Zuvi Halo (the hair dryer of dreams) to Il Makiage’s iconic foundation and the Slimyonik Air body styler. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.
Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won’t need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We’re getting in their first, giving you the lowdown and making sure you invest in products that genuinely work.
This week, Beauty and Features Assistant Sheilla Mamona is trying the Douyin blush makeup method which has currently gone viral on TikTok. The technique everyone has been following is where you apply a red lipstick or a pigmented liquid blush in small arrows on the outer eyes, cheekbones, nose and chin before blending it out and essentially creating a doll-like look.
‘Douyin’ is actually China’s term for TikTok -–which tells us about the origin of this particular blush trend – and there are loads of other similar makeup methods on the app that are popular among content creators, enthusiasts and more. To achieve the Douyin blush look, Shei is using Saie’s Dew Blush.

“I don’t have a red lipstick on me right now so I’m going to go with this purple-y blush from Saie because I’m a dark-skinned babes and you’ve got to do what works for you,” Shei says.
She begins to create arrow shapes using the liquid Dew Blush on her face, just as the TikTok video guides before diffusing it out with stippling brush. “I have the arrows all messed up but, anyways, let’s blend!”
“It’s giving runway,” Shei says. “My nose is far too red, but I see the vision.” After finishing, Shei gives her final thoughts: “Um, excuse me! She. Looks. Cute. I really like this!”
