Glastonbury fans sobbing as Elton John pays tribute to George Michael

Sir Elton John got emotional on Sunday night as he paid a moving tribute to his pal George Michael on what would have been his 60th birthday.

Before wrapping up his two-hour Glastonbury set, Sir Elton took a moment to speak about George.

“It is a very special day today and I was wondering how I was going to approach it,” Sir Elton began.

“One of Britain’s fantastic songwriters, singers, and artists was George Michael.

“He was my friend, he was an inspiration and today would have been his 60th birthday.”

He continued: “I want to dedicate this next song to his memory and all the music he left us with which is so gorgeous.

“This is for you, George,” Sir Elton concluded before singing Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me.

As Sir Elton concluded his last-ever UK show, he took a moment to thank his fans.

“I want to thank you all for dressing up in the costumes and the glasses it makes me feel so happy,” he shared.

“It makes me feel so loved and I want to thank you also for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you have shown me.

“It has been an incredible journey and I have had the best time, I’ll never forget you, you’re in my head, my heart, and my soul.

“You have been an incredible crowd tonight, thank you Glastonbury, thank you England.”

Fans took to Twitter in droves to praise Sir Elton for his incredible show and his tribute to George Michael on what would have been his 60th birthday.
