Glendale, Arizona Will Briefly Change Name to Honor Taylor Swift

The city of Glendale, Arizona will temporarily change its name to honor Taylor Swift, prior to the launch of her Eras Tour.

“There is no need to calm down, we’re fearless and doing something highly unusual to celebrate the fact that Taylor’s concerts start right here!,” reads a statement from the city laden with Swift song titles, according to Fox 10 Phoenix. “We know all too well that she’s one of the most influential artists of her generation and we are writing our own love story for her and greeting every Swiftie in style!”

Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers is expected to announce the actual new name on Monday. It will go into effect on March 17 and 18, the two days that Taylor will perform at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

It’s impossible to discuss the Eras Tour without mentioning Ticketmaster’s botched presale event, which sparked an investigation from Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, and ultimately became the subject of a Senate Committee on the Judiciary hearing. Swift spoke out about the debacle, admitting that it has been “really difficult” to trust people outside her team with executing her vision.

“There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward,” she said. “I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could.”

The Eras Tour will kick off in Glendale on March 17.
