A Polish volunteer transporting vital humanitarian aid to the besieged Ukrainian city of Bakhmut during its most intense fighting has died.
Known as Marek, the man was hit by Russian shells in Bakhmut on March 16th. He died in Kyiv on March 27 after being unable to recover from his wounds.
A statement from Nehemiah Initiative, the organisation with which he worked, said: “On Thursday, March 16th, barbaric shelling reached him, his friend from our team and 4 other civilians while delivering humanitarian aid on the Konstantinovka – Chasiv Yar route.
“Despite a rapid evacuation and the utmost professionalism of Ukrainian medics, who fought for his life during several hours of operations, Marek died in a clinic in Kyiv before noon today.”
Marek has been making aid trips to Ukraine since the fall of 2022. He was in Irpin, Fastov, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk.
