Godzilla vs. Kong’s Eiza Gonzalez Addresses Rumors of Elektra Casting in Daredevil: Born Again

Following rumors that she has been cast in Daredevil: Born Again as Elektra, Eiza Gonzalez clarified her position and addressed online hate.

Kevin Feige’s announcement of Daredevil: Born Again confirmed Charlie Cox’s place in the MCU is guaranteed, but with very little else known about the new 18-episode series there is a lot of speculation about who else could feature. While Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is almost certainly a part of the series in some way, there have been new rumors about who could be appearing as Elektra in the revival of the Daredevil franchise.

Over the summer, Baby Driver star Eiza Gonzalez’s name was touted as the actress expected to take on the role previously played by Jenifer Garner and Elodie Yung in the Ben Affleck movie and Netflix’s Daredevil series respectively. However, Gonzale has now addressed these rumors, dismissing them while at the same time calling out hates who took issue with her possible casting in the role. She wrote on Twitter:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I feel like I’m just gonna get it out of the way because, One I’m confused as for the amount of hate over this and two I feel like it saves people energy. No I’m not cast as Elektra in Daredevil I have already a on going series exclusivity contract to 3 Body Problem. Ur welcome”

While there are plenty of stars who debunk casting rumors before official announcements are made, this time around the details about Gonzalez’s current contracts seem to suggest that her statement is a simple denial rather than anything with hidden meaning.

Daredevil: Born Again Is The Longest MCU Series To Date

Charlie Cox made his return to the role of Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home last December, an appearance that pretty much coincided with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin appearance in Disney+ series Hawkeye. Now both stars are also expected to turn up again in Hawkeye spin-off Echo, and before that Cox will be back in full Daredevil suit in next week’s She-Hulk episode, when he will go up against Tatiana Maslany’s green goddess.

However, the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again a couple of months ago is a sign of how much faith Marvel Studios has in the popularity of the character to not only carry his own series once more, but also to deliver the longest MCU series to hit Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again will be twice as long as any other show released on the platform, and that means a lot of scope for an expanded storyline for the returning hero lawyer of Hell’s Kitchen.

There has so far been no real indication of how the new Daredevil series will sit in relation to its predecessor in terms of its rating. Of course, the Netflix Defenders Saga was rate TV-MA, but whether Marvel will look to bring that down to a TV-14 is unclear, although some recent speculation about the inclusion of Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher joining the MCU in the series could hint at Daredevil: Born Again pushing towards the TV-MA rating when it arrives early 2024.
