The Golden Globes are back, baby! Award season has officially kicked off as the best of film and TV are honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. At this point, we’ve already seen all the shows and movies we’re going to see, so why tune in? For the fits, of course. It’s the end of the press tour but just the start of stylist busy season, and this red carpet did not disappoint.
The Golden Globes weren’t televised last year as the organisation faced criticism for its lack of diversity, but they’ve come back swinging.
Because the Globes honour television and movies, and make distinctions for comedies and dramas, this is the widest array of stars outside of maybe the SAG Awards. Quinta Brunson. Aubrey Plaza, Austin Butler and Michelle Yeoh all in one night! Notably absent is Brendan Fraser, star of The Whale, who declined to attend because he had been groped at the event by the organization’s head. There are also no female directors nominated this year, though Sarah Polley at least snagged a screenplay nom for Women Talking. (Here’s the full list of nominees.)
No matter who wins or loses tonight, the most important thing is that everyone have fun and nobody hit anybody else. Actually, that’s the second priority. The first is, under no circumstances should Jennifer Coolidge’s speech be cut off, as it was at the Emmys. Let Tanya speak!!!
