The Global Peace Index ranks countries based on their crime rate and peace levels to find the world’s safest.
In this year’s ranking, Iceland topped the list, taking the crown as the world’s safest country for holidays.
From breathtaking waterfalls to black sand beaches and hot springs, Iceland really has it all. Except maybe the weather.
All of this year’s safest countries were in Europe except for one destination that’s slightly further afield.
Iceland topped this year’s ranking. The country has a low rate of violent crime and most visits are trouble free.
One of the country’s best-rated attractions is its Black Sand beach, which has dramatic rock formations.
A tourist wrote on Tripadvisor: “Gorgeous, almost mystical beach. Looks like something out of a fantasy novel.”
Although Iceland is this year’s safest country, tourists should follow local advice when visiting the country’s natural attractions as it is volcanically and seismically active.
Just a short hop across the sea for British tourists, Ireland made the top three safest destinations for a holiday.
The Emerald Isle is known for its breathtaking coastline, farm fresh food and world-famous bars.
British tourists looking for an adventure further afield might want to venture to New Zealand which landed just outside the top three on this year’s ranking.
