Short hair is big news. It seems more of us are wanting to be more adventurous with our chops, hence, we keep spotting celebs, influencers and pals lopping off some major length.
Florence Pugh, Zoe Kravitz, Rachel Zegler, Demi Lovato – all have switched longer swooshy strands for delicate nape-bearing cuts. But, contrary to what some may believe, going shorter doesn’t mean you’re left with less options. As with all of our favourite hairstyles, short hair offers some major versatility and tons of ways to style it and add personality.
One way? A fringe. A headlining trend in its own right, shorter hair may mean you have to adapt the way you frame your face to work with the rest of the cut. But whether you like the look of a wispy fringe, thick curtain bangs, a micro length or just a little loose cheekbone-framing action, a fringe can make a beautiful addition to shorter-length hair.
As for which cut to add it too, cute pixie crops are trending big time. Pruning back extra layers can open the face up and emphasise bone structure. Want to stay in bob territory? The French bob is the chic lip-length cut that takes the classic bob haircut about as short as it can go. For something a little more rebellious, hybrid cuts like the mixie (where the mullet meets the pixie) are choppy and badass, but still pretty and delicate. They offer a shorter pixie style in the front, but with some extra length at the back. Plus you can make them as layered or as sleek as you like. And loose boy crops like the lop fall somewhere in between a bob and short crop. It’s an adorable in-between situation that allows you to grow to bob length quick if you want to switch it up, or go even shorter if you fancy.
