Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Looks Incredible With RTX Remix’s Path Tracing

NVIDIA’s RTX Remix, a modding tool that can be used to introduce real-time path tracing to older titles, is breathing new life into some of the best games released in the past, among them Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which looks incredible, even in the early stages of its path tracing implementation.

New videos shared on YouTube by Definitive Street showcase the classic entry in the open-world series by Rockstar Games running with path tracing and comparing it to the vanilla version of the game. While some visual glitches still have to be ironed out, it is undeniable how much path tracing enhances the game’s now-dated visuals even in its early implementation, making them much better than those of the official remaster released back in 2021.

To be honest, it really doesn’t take much for any modded version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to look better than the remaster included in the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition collection, as the collection launched in an extremely disappointing state which was only marginally improved after release. You can learn more about it by checking out Nathan’s review.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition collects some truly groundbreaking games that still provide their share of nostalgic fun, but little has been done to make them shine here in 2021. Ultimately, a shoddy visual upgrade, choppy performance, and a lack of meaningful updates or extras may leave you questioning why you loved them in the first place. Perhaps this collection can be brought up to snuff with updates from Rockstar (or modders), but for now, its Wanted Level remains low.
