Grant Gustin Hangs Up The Flash Suit for the Very Last Time

We all know that The Flash is ending, but it’s really starting to sink in upon seeing Grant Gustin literally hanging up the tights. Recently, filming wrapped on the ninth and final season of The Flash, the last of the Arrowverse shows which first premiered back in 2014. Gustin has posted a new video on Instagram revealing himself hanging up his Flash suit for the final time with no apparent reason to ever suit back up again. It seems to be a little emotional for Gustin, as it will be for many of the longtime fans when watching the video.

“I don’t usually hang that,” Gustin says in the video. “It usually goes in the laundry. Doesn’t need to be washed now.”

Patting the suit a couple of times to say farewell, the actor adds, “Thanks bud.”

Many fans have been offering emotional responses on the post. Also among those chiming in is Brandon Routh, who played The Atom in the Arrowverse and guest starred on The Flash. Routh is also known for playing Superman in Superman Returns, a role he also reprised for the Arrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths.

“I feel you friend,” Routh tells Gustin. “You gave it your heart & soul. And we received it. Congratulations for all you’ve accomplished. And the countless waves of positive energy you’ve sent out into the universe, in bringing this character to life.”

This might be the end of an era, but it’s also the right time to say goodbye for Gustin. He recently spoke about how he felt “ready” to hang the suit up, as emotional as it might be. The actor compared The Flash ending to graduating from high school, having spent so many years with his Flash family as they now prepare to move on to the next chapters of their lives.

“I’m ready for it to be over,” Gustin said, per E! News. “And that’s not for any negative reason. It’s like when you’re getting ready to finish high school and—granted I don’t know what college I’m going to after this, I might not get into college—but you’re excited to wrap up and move on to the next phase of your life. I’m ready emotionally and my family is ready to just kind of move into the next chapter together.”

But saying goodbye to the TV show does not necessarily mean that Gustin is no longer The Flash. As far as he sees it, he will forever be The Flash, whether or not he’s wearing the red suit.

“I’ll get to be The Flash forever even when this ends,” he said. “We couldn’t have done this this long if we didn’t have people supporting us as much as they had over the years, and it’s really shaped who I am.”
