British tourists travelling to Greece have been issued new travel advice by the UK Government.

The warning advises tourists that protests over the Israel and Palestine conflict could take place this weekend.

A spokesperson said: “Greek authorities have increased security at some prominent locations, including tourist sites, due to events in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

“There is a pro-Palestinian protest scheduled for Sunday November 5 in Athens. Stay aware of your surroundings, stay away from demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”

British tourists can follow the @112Greece account on X (formerly Twitter) for updates from the local authorities.

Demonstrations in Athens often take place in central Athens, particularly around Syntagma Square. Protests could happen at short notice.

In the security advice for Greece, the UK Government advises tourists to “avoid demonstrations where possible”.

It added: “If you do find yourself unexpectedly near a demonstration, move away to the last known safe place.”

Pro-Palestine demonstrations have taken place in many European cities, including in Istanbul, Berlin and Madrid.

Thousands of demonstrators also took to the streets in Paris on November 28 despite a ban on protests.

British tourists can find the latest travel advice for Greece or any other holiday destination on the Foreign Travel Advice website.
