Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Team Says Gizmo Is Cuter Than Grogu

Who is cuter: Gizmo or Grogu? It might be a difficult question for some, while others may feel strongly for one or the other. In any case, it has been debated by fans on social media. As fans will know, Gizmo is the furry Mogwai from the Gremlins movies who is back in animated form in Max’s animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Meanwhile, Grogu has been a dominant force in pop culture since his debut in The Mandalorian in 2019, affectionately referred to as “Baby Yoda” by Star Wars fans. He also recently returned to Disney+ for the third season of The Mandalorian.

The question has made its way to some of the team members behind the new Gremlins series. In a new interview with Geek Vibes Nation, the Gizmo vs. Grogu question was presented to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai showrunner Tze Chun and writer Brendan Hay. For his part, Hay was very quick to respond with “Gizmo.” Chun took a brief moment to think before also coming back with the same answer. Of course, there might be just a little bit of bias there, given the close attachment these two now have with the character, but some Star Wars fans may nevertheless see this as shots fired.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Has Been Embraced by Gizmo Fans

Some Star Wars fanatics might disagree, but there must certainly be many others out there who might pick Gizmo over Grogu. That’s going by how well-received Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai has been with viewers upon its release on Max. It premiered with a perfect score of 100% on the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is also sitting high at 93% currently. The show will be back for more episodes as well, as Max has renewed the series for a second season ahead of the first season’s premiere. That early renewal also means that fans won’t have to wait too long for new episodes.

“Lucky for us, there is a second season, and it’s almost done,” Chun told GVN. “We had this really great thing where, it was really rare, but we started working on the second season before the first one premiered. So, I think we just have [post-production] for a couple more episodes.”

Teasing some exciting casting news for season 2, he added, “But, it has a great voice cast, and we can’t spoil anything now, but we felt very lucky that basically everybody was our first choice [in season 1], and in the second season, there’s a really stacked voice cast.”

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai was developed for Max by Tze Chun. The voice cast includes Izaac Wang (Sam Wing), Ming-Na Wen (Fong Wing), B. D. Wong (Hon Wing), James Hong (Grandpa Wing), Matthew Rhys (Riley Greene), Gabrielle Nevaeh Green (Elle), and A. J. Locascio as the voice of Gizmo.
