Grimes Called Out The Grammys For Being “Irrelevant” And Said They Wouldn’t Let Her Nominate Late Trans Producer SOPHIE For An Award

Grimes is throwing some shade at the Grammys — and calling them out for no longer being relevant.

It all started when Grimes’ friend Charli XCX made a sarcastic post about not being nominated for an award this year.

“me not being nominated for a grammy for crash is like mia goth not being nominated for an oscar for pearl and only further proves that people don’t wanna see hot evil girls thrive,” Charli wrote on Instagram.

Charli got plenty of support in the comment section, including a reply from Grimes who didn’t have anything nice to about the Grammys.

“The Grammies are so irrelevant I wouldn’t even sweat it,” Grimes began in her comment.

She went on to say that it was an experience she had while working with the Recording Academy that changed her opinion on the award show.

“I stopped even clocking them in any capacity when I was on the producer of the year board and they quite literally would not allow me to nominate anyone who wasn’t on a pre fabricated list that was exceptionally boring,” she wrote.

She continued, “I was one of 3 women and the only person under 40 for sure.”

Grimes added that she at one point tried to give a nod to iconic transgender producer SOPHIE and she was told no.

“It’s literally not a relevant thing. I tried to nominate SOPHIE and was told that wasn’t allowed,” Grimes concluded.

While it’s unclear why Grimes couldn’t nominate SOPHIE, the producer was eventually nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2018.

Meanwhile, Grimes has not yet been nominated for a Grammy — but it definitely doesn’t sound like that bothers her!
