A group of celebrity chefs is tying one on to help feed the world’s hungry. And these culinary luminaries are doing it through an amazing initiative known as Cooks Who Feed, an organization that works with multiple charitable groups to not only bring food to those in need, but help with food waste, as well as create jobs for underprivileged women in India.

And it’s all done through a simple apron – a celebrity-endorsed apron that offers 100 meals for each one sold.

The brainchild of Seema Sanghavi, at the helm of the Cooks Who Feed organization, each celebrity-endorsed apron has the ability to provide 100 meals for those in need. The company’s core mandate is to address world hunger as well as the environmental effects of food waste, plus work with a variety of charitable organizations that collect surplus food to provide immediate hunger relief.

This year, five chefs are offering their support, and Sanghavi couldn’t be happier.

“I’m thrilled that these celebrity chefs have teamed up with us to help with such a great cause,” Sanghavi said in a recent media release. “They can feel good knowing that they are taking steps to help make the world a better place, all through their love of food.”

Each celebrity chef helped with the apron design in their honour, and the participants include executive chef Art Smith, once the personal chef to Oprah Winfrey and co-owner of several restaurants. There’s award-winning chef Christine Cushing, famous for her plethora of food shows, (including the award-winning Confucius Was a Foodie ) and global broadcasts as well as judge for the hit Food Network series, Wall of Chefs . There’s chef Devan Rajkumar, well-known in culinary circles for his flair for live culinary demonstrations as well as his work with established food companies (he’s also a regular on Cityline, one of Canada’s longest running daytime shows.)

There’s Gaggan Anand, who helped put Indian cuisine in the fine dining spotlight with his restaurant, Gaggan. Anand is known for what he calls “progressive Indian cuisine.” Since its debut in 2010, Anand’s restaurant was repeatedly placed on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. He was also profiled in Season 2 Episode 6 of Netflix’s Chef’s Table .

And Chef Romain Avril rounds out the list. Best known for his appearances as a judge on Top Chef Canada All-Stars , and as a competing chef on Chopped Canada , Avril is a sought-after show guest on a variety of lifestyle TV programs.

These special aprons created in honour of the ambassador chefs have a multi-faceted purpose: Not only do they raise funds for badly-needed meals, but they’re created by underprivileged women in India, where the aprons are made in a fair-trade facility. An all-around win-win situation for everyone involved, say organizers.

These special aprons are the gift that keeps on giving, especially during this holiday season, when people are looking for something totally unique and with purpose to give.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

“This holiday season, when people give an apron as a gift, they will also be giving 100 meals to help feed the hungry,” said Sanghavi, in a recent release. “We are happy to be working with such inspirational celebrity chefs and for everyone to come together for such a great cause.”
