Hello, springtime! Even if you live in a seemingly never-ending arctic climate like I do, eventually Mother Nature relents and gives us a respite from our puffy coats. But our wardrobe isn’t the only thing to lighten up come springtime: our skin-care routine deserves a refresher, too.
This winter I was nothing short of head-over-heels with Katini Skin Collagen Facial Oil, which kept my face looking youthful and rested, even if I felt far from either of those things. I’ll always reach for that oil whenever my skin needs a pick-me-up and plump-me-up, but for an everyday cream, I’ve been on the hunt for something lighter to transition to warmer days. I found it in Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream ($50).

It’s nourishing without being greasy or heavy, leaving behind no residual oil or shine. (A major plus for us prone-to-oil folks.) Trust me, you’ll see the hydration and feel the velvety texture your skin will take on immediately—a perfect formula for a springtime cream.
One look at the ingredient list will tell you why it’s a winner for an everyday cream. “This formula is loaded with nourishing plant extracts and oils to moisturize the skin without sensitizing it,” says Dr. Geeta Yadav, dermatologist and founder of Skin Science Dermatology. “The most prevalent ingredient in the cream is aloe vera, which is known for its soothing and intensely hydrating properties.”
Those plant extracts and oils she mentions? There’s a melange of them in the Day Cream, all working hard to keep your skin soft, youthful, and moisturized. “Oils like sweet almond, rosehip, camellia, and jojoba are rich in fatty acids, which work to hydrate the skin while strengthening the skin barrier, preventing moisture loss for lasting hydration,” says Dr. Yadav. “Some of these ingredients offer antioxidant benefits too, which means they can stave off free radical damage from environmental factors like pollution, which cause visible signs of aging.”
Though Grown Alchemist suggests the Day Cream for all skin types, it’s a better solution for someone with more dry skin. “Because of all the rich plant oils,” says Dr. Yadav, “it’s best suited towards someone who has particularly dry skin or normal skin that can be prone to dryness.” If you’re acne-prone or have oily skin, beware that some of the plant oils in the Day Cream can be comedogenic, which can lead to breakouts.
You’ve put away your puffy coat. Now it’s time to put away your heavy winter creams and lighten up your day-to-day moisturizer. Springtime, we’re ready for you.
