GT vs PBKS: I have never seen a six as big as that one – Kevin Pietersen in awe of Livingstone’s monster hit

Punjab Kings pulled off an upset in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday, 3 May after defeating Gujarat Titans by a massive margin of eight wickets. The Kings, after being sent to field first, did exceptionally well with the ball, first restricting Gujarat to a below par target of 143 runs, owing to Kagiso Rabada’s four wicket haul.

Returning to chase in the second innings of the game, Punjab’s Shikhar Dhawan took his own sweet time to build the innings. While it looked like Punjab would surely go on to win after Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s quickfire 40 runs, life was breathed into the game after the injection of Liam Livingstone in the middle.

The England batsman, while facing Mohammad Shami in the 16th over of the game, decided that enough was enough, and Punjab needed to seal the game off quickly. He hit Mohammad Shami for the biggest six of the tournament in the first ball, sailing it 117 metres into the boundary. Fellow Englishman Kevin Pietersen – who was in the commentary panel at the moment was left in awe of the shot and said that he had never seen a six as big as that one.

Liam Livingstone proceeded to take 28 runs off that Shami over, hitting him for two more sixes and then picking two boundaries off him. The rapid innings of 30* off 10 balls took Punjab over the line and gave them a huge boost in the net run rate. The win took Punjab to fifth position in the points table, with 10 points from 10 matches.

Here’s how Livingstone’s 117m six left Twitter amazed –

Punjab Kings will now hope to carry on their momentum and win their four remaining matches. If they are able to do that, Mayank Agarwal will be at 18 points, and will become a prime contender to enter the playoffs stage.
