A beautiful encounter between two houses that are so emblematic of France’s cultural and artistic heritage, makes 2023 the year of Matisse at Guerlain.

To celebrate the launch of this meaningful collaboration, Maison Matisse has created true celebration of happiness in perfume. This tribute to the artist Henri Matisse is embodied in two original creations, true works of art inspired by two of his paintings. Two colorfully joyful motifs signed by Maison Matisse.

One on the Bee Bottle Maison Matisse Edition exceptional piece. Celebrating the 170th anniversary of the iconic Bee Bottle, a spectacular Exceptional Piece features an exclusive design inspired by “La Musique” (1939), one of Matisse’s most recognised paintings. Fourteen unique pieces are adorned with vibrantly coloured motifs created by Astrid de Chaillé, an art craftswoman. For the occasion, Guerlain Perfumers have composed Couleur Bonheur, a modern fruity chypre fragrance filled with olfactory colours as sunny and bright as the artist’s palette. This precious perfume extract is exclusive to the Bee Bottle Maison Matisse Edition.

The other, across three new Maison Matisse Editions in the L’Art & La Matière collection. Meanwhile, for the L’Art & La Matière collection, the collaboration has led to a further three precious editions. Hearts, jasmine blossoms and leaves come together in a second Guerlain-exclusive olfactory motif – inspired by “Les Mille et Une Nuits” masterpiece signed by Henri Matisse in 1950. This composition transforms the case of the new Jasmin Bonheur fragrance and the plate on its stopper into the most exquisite adornment. Its gorgeously joyful design is also echoed on a Maison Matisse Edition of the Figue Azur candle. Jasmin Bonheur marks the first time a jasmine fragrance has been added to Guerlain’s L’Art & La Matière collection. A colourful take on jasmine tinged with bright shades of radiantly orange apricot notes, vibrant purple-coloured iris and soft rose pink, this new olfactory creation is inspired by Henri Matisse’s bold colour palette. While jasmine has been one of Guerlain’s favourite materials since 1828, here it offers up surprising new revelations, as the star-shaped bloom is showcased in a different way thanks to the addition of a lively pop of fruitychypre floral colour to its traditionally sensual intensity.

Jasmin Bonheur marks the very first time a jasmine fragrance has been composed for the L’Art & La Matière collection. By tinting jasmine with apricot, rose and iris, Guerlain’s Perfumers have brought colour to the white jasmine flower, making it smile with joyful shades of colour. Happiness and French joie de vivre exude. “I designed an elegant, colourful jasmine fragrance, tinting this white flower with vibrant olfactory nuances inspired by the palette of Henri Matisse, one of the artists who best expresses happiness.” says Delphine Jell, Guerlain Perfumer.

“For this creation, we composed the ideal jasmine scent. It brings together jasmine from three precious origins, including a rare Calabrian jasmine replanted exclusively for Guerlain in the exact place where it bloomed over forty years ago.” Guerlain’s Master Perfumer Thierry Wasser adds.

Together they form a preciously poetic way to underline the extent to which the art of the painter and the art of the perfumer feed, harmonise and inspire each other…
