Gunna’s ‘DS4EVER’ Scores the No. 1 Spot on the Top 200

Gunna has the number one album atop the Billboard 200 chart.

His latest LP DS4EVR, which did 150,300 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Jan. 13, according to MRC Data. The trip to the top of the charts for his record comes after Hits Daily Double projected Gunna landing 144,000 equivalent album units, with 3,000 estimated to be traditional album sales. The project features 19 tracks with collaborations from 21 Savage, Chris Brown, Future, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch and Young Thug.

Another successful album from The Weeknd was expected to score about 157,000 units with 15,000 in traditional sales.

In a hectic week of pushing P and Jim Carrey radio segments, it’s no surprise to see both records reign supreme. But these numbers aren’t overly impressive in comparison to 2021’s most impressive first-week album earnings. Drake’s Certified Lover Boy earned 613,000 equivalent album units first week, while Kanye West’s Donda scored 309,000. The Weeknd’s previous effort, 2020’s After Hours, earned 444,000. Dawn FM, however, had neither physical sales for its first week nor a standard promotion cycle, both of which likely played a role in it falling short of its predecessor.

This is Gunna’s second number one album. Last year’s Wunna also took the top spot and is his fourth project to land somewhere in the top 10 spot.

The Weeknd’s, Dawn FM is potentially the second LP in what he has identified as a “new trilogy” of releases, the last of which—House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence—built up the Canadian’s fanbase back in 2011. Only time will tell when and what fans can expect from the apparently inevitable third release in the After Hours/Dawn FM story.
