Food Network has announced the return of Guy’s Grocery Games, but with a twist. Per Variety, an all-star version with only celebrity chef contestants has been ordered at the network with Guy Fieri hosting. The tournament will last five weeks, starting on Aug. 16 at 9 p.m. on Food Network. Contestants, who will be competing for $75,000 in prizes along with the Guy’s Grocery Games trophy, include famed culinary masters Karen Akunowicz, Nate Appleman, Jose Garces, Ilan Hall, Stephanie Izard, Mei Lin, Shota Nakajima, and Jonathon Sawyer.
An official description for the series reads, “Each week the chefs go head-to-head to see whose shopping and cooking skills are a cut above the rest. They must navigate their way through the grocery aisles as they are tested in challenges from ‘Express Lane,’ where they must create a signature sandwich and side using only 8 ingredients, to ‘Budget Battle,’ where they must make an impressive weeknight dinner for four with only $25, to ‘Frozen Food Feud,’ where they must make a dish only using frozen ingredients, and many more. Ultimately, the food does the talking, as a rotating panel of judges determine who checks out of the competition.”
In a statement, Fieri also said, “These culinary rockstars have more awards and accolades than you can count, but let me tell you, they’ve never experienced the heart-pounding intensity of Flavortown Market before. They’re itching to prove they’re the true masters of flavor, and I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to see if they’re the real deal!”
“It’s an absolute thrill to witness these incredible chefs, at the pinnacle of the food world, racing down the aisles for the very first time as Guy Fieri puts their skills to the test,” adds Warner Bros. Discovery’s head of food content, Betsy Ayala. “Viewers will be captivated by the extraordinary dishes they create under the pressure of the ticking clock.”

This announcement is a part of Fieri’s lucrative deal that he signed with Food Network in 2021. At the time, it was reported that he had signed a three-year deal to the tune of $80 million. That’s a pay raise of $50 million compared to the last deal he’d signed with Food Network. By far, it makes Fieri television’s highest-paid chef. Given how Diners, Drive Ins and Dives alone has generated more than $230 milliion in ad revenue in the year before that deal was signed, it’s more understandable why the network would be shelling out such big books to keep Fieri around through at least 2024.
“We’ve been offered and enticed, and, yes, there’s probably a way to do this in some different levels, but I’m treated pretty well,” Fieri said of his relationship with Food Network in a THR interview at the time. “I got a chance of a lifetime, and I think I played it good.”
