Guy Martin has revealed that he did many “stupid” things before meeting his fiancée.
The 41-year-old mechanic, who retired from motorcycle racing back in 2017 recently got engaged to long-term partner Sharon Comiskey.
In an honest interview with this week’s Radio Times, he opened up about their ten-year relationship.
The energetic thrill seeker admitted: “I was doing stupid things way before I met her, so she’s used to it”.
However, he revealed that he has a “big challenge next year” and Sharon has said that he needs “to start thinking” about being a “family man.”
Sharon also said that she “understands” and knows that he needs to work towards goals to keep him focused.
Despite his success, he has a huge down to earth presence and lives a relatively normal lifestyle.
He doesn’t even watch his own programmes. “It’s only in the past five years, when Dot was born, that we got a television”.
He quipped: “I know what I did, I was there! I don’t need to watch it to confirm it.”
Martin was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, which is a form of autism, as an adult.
During the interview, he also admitted believing that he would never tie the knot.
His recent change of tune meant that he got down on one knee and popped the question.
He also revealed that he only bought the ring a number of weeks ago.
“I bought my missus an engagement ring a couple of weeks ago”.
When discussing the wedding he said: “There will be about half a dozen at the wedding. We’re not flash people.”
“We’ll just go to a registry office in Grimsby and get it done,” he continued.
