Here is your Tottenham morning digest on Tuesday, June 28.

Conte targets new defensive target

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have been watching Mohamed Simakan. The 22-year-old defender made 27 Bundesliga appearances for RB Leipzig last season, as well as featuring in the Europa League.

His talent has already been noticed and he previously received big praise from the German side’s former sporting director, Markus Krosche. The 41-year-old said: “Mohamed Simakan is a robust, dynamic and versatile defender. He can play in central defence or at full-back. At 20, Mohamed is still young and capable of developing.”

Huge Gvardiol blow

Tottenham Hotspur look to have been handed a major blow in the race to sign Josko Gvardiol, with the 20-year-old reportedly set to pen a new deal at RB Leipzig. The defender has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, but Antonio Conte may now have to wait until next summer until an agreement can be reached.

According to Croatian outlet Sportske, Gvardiol is set to agree a new deal at the Red Bull Arena, ending Spurs’ hopes of signing the defender. The report claims that the contract will include a release clause worth more than €50million (£43m), leaving the door open to a future move.

Conte told how to manage wonderkid dilemma

Tottenham have already welcomed three new players to Hotspur Way this summer, with a number of others expected to join in the next couple of months. However, Antonio Conte needs to also assess the squad he already has and how Pape Matar Sarr can fit into his plans for next season.

The 19-year-old was loaned straight back to his former club Metz after the Lilywhites bought him last summer, handing him valuable experience. And, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Sarr should go out on loan once more in the forthcoming season.

“Sarr has been out on loan. He played a lot in France last year which will have only done him good,” Robinson told Football Insider. “A lot depends on what the manager thinks going forward in the future.

“You would think that a player of that age, that has been out on loan in France, it will do him no harm to do the same again. Send him back out. Players’ careers can be held back. It can be detrimental to keep them in the squad for the sake of it.”
