Halle Bailey Transformed Her Locs Into Curly Jumbo Braids

Halle Bailey‘s locs have been part of her signature look since we first heard her angelic voice ringing in our ears. Both she and her sister Chlöe have worn locs for most of their lives, and they’re constantly proving the sheer versatility of the style — case in point, Bailey’s most recent look, which transformed her locs into jumbo braids that ended in sweet curls.

Bailey, who is fresh off the Little Mermaid press tour (and its bevy of hairstyles), flew to Paris for the Ami Alexandre Mattiussi menswear show, ditching the Ariel red she had been rocking for months in favor of a shiny black color. Her hair was braided to one side and all the way down to her hips, gradually transitioning into loose curls. It’s a style Bailey has worn before; in May, she hosted a Little Mermaid screening in equally glossy twists in a trendy cherry cola color.

Bailey wore the look with an oversized dove gray suit and a timelessly chic winged eye and glossy red lip. The cat-eye liner was drawn in an exaggerated line all the way to the end of her brow but felt soft rather than sharp, especially when paired with a fluttery lash, brushed-up brow and a warm flushed cheek.

We’ve been having so much fun watching Bailey on the red carpet, and she and her glam team brought their A++ game during the Little Mermaid promo cycle. At the Met Gala, she had us examining her style from every angle because it was locs, but straight, but locs. For a premiere, she channeled her onscreen character with red locs down to there, then served up under the sea enchantment with a jeweled scallop headpiece. The piece de resistance of her Ariel press tour was the elaborate, twisted side ponytail with so many intricate details that it felt like a work of art.
