1. The original timeline
In this continuity, Jamie Lee Curtis stars as Laurie Strode in the first two movies before being revealed to be Michael Myers’ sister. She doesn’t feature in 4, 5 and 6, which focus on the slasher hunting his niece Jamie Lloyd. Donald Pleasance’s Dr Sam Loomis stars throughout.
Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
2. The one-off standalone anthology movie timeline
This spin-off doesn’t feature Michael Myers and is set in a world where Halloween is a movie, just like ours. The plot follows a coven of witches trying to murder children by selling them exploding Halloween masks. Jamie Lee Curtis cameos as the curfew announcer/telephone operator.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
5. The second retcon timeline (the current one)
In this new timeline, the three new sequels follow directly on from just the original 1978 Halloween movie. Michael Myers has been incarcerated for 40 years and Curtis’ Laurie – who returns once again – is not his sister. Presumably, this is the end of this timeline, but we would be very surprised if that’s it for the franchise.
