Presenter Hamish Blake won the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television at TV’s night of nights on the Gold Coast.

In his acceptance speech just before midnight on Sunday, the Nine Network Lego Masters presenter acknowledged the industry had been through some tough times of late.

“We’re so grateful to get to do what we do… we’re super lucky to get to keep working,” he said.

Blake climbed onstage to accept three Logies, with Lego Masters winning its first ever award for most outstanding entertainment or comedy program.

“It’s really fun to actually just make something that’s about creativity and joy,” Blake said, as he thanked his co-host Ryan McNaught and Lego Masters crew.

“It’s like there are thousands and thousands of little pieces that come together to make the show.”

Blake also took home the Logie for most popular presenter, newly named for the late television superstar Bert Newton and presented by Newton’s wife Patti.

ABC’s The Newsreader took home two Logies, winning most outstanding drama series, and star Anna Torv winning most outstanding actress.

Another of its scripted dramas, Fires, won the miniseries category, with Richard Roxburgh winning most outstanding actor.

It was also a big night for the Seven Network, with sports presenter Bruce McAvaney inducted into the TV Week Hall of Fame, to a standing ovation.

The ABC’s Tony Armstrong took out the Graham Kennedy Award for most popular new talent, days after his euphoric on screen reaction to the Socceroos making it through to the World Cup.
