Hampden Park has been included on a list of venues that is in the running to stage a European final in 2026 or 2027.

UEFA announced on Tuesday that the Glasgow stadium was a contender to host the final of the men’s Europa League, the men’s Conference League, or the Women’s Champions League in either of those years.

Glasgow will be up against Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Bucharest or Istanbul for the right to stage a Europa League final.

Stadiums in Leipzig, Jerusalem, Oslo, Geneva and Istanbul are the other venues in the running for the Conference League final.

For the Women’s Champions League final, its rivals will be one of Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Bucharest or Istanbul.

European football’s governing body said the declaration of interest was not binding and that final proposals would be submitted by February 21 next year, ahead of a final decision on hosting in May 2024.

Hampden has previously hosted six European finals, the most famous of which when Zinedine Zidane’s volley clinched a 2-1 Champions League win for Real Madrid over Bayer Leverkusen in 2002.

Another notable decider at the venue was the 1960 European Cup final, which saw Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in front of a crowd of 127,000.

The last European final to be played in Glasgow was the 2007 UEFA Cup Final clash between Sevilla and Espanyol, which went the way of the Sevilla after a penalty shootout.
