Hanuma Vihari claims nobody contacted him to explain the reason behind his India snub

The Andhra Pradesh cricketer – who has played 16 Tests and averages 33.56 in the red-ball format for India – last featured in the Test whites in Birmingham for the rescheduled fifth Test against England, which India lost.

Vihari – who scored 21 and 11 respectively in the two innings of the match was subsequently dropped from the squad and didn’t get a recall. Vihari – who has been doing well in the domestic circuit – has now claimed that he wasn’t even given an explanation about why he was dropped from the side.

While interacting with The Indian Express, Vihari – who is leading the South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy final against West Zone – said: “Definitely, there was a disappointment. I didn’t find a reason why I was dropped and it was the only thing that was bothering me. Nobody really contacted me and told me the reasons why I was dropped.”

The 29-year-old, while speaking about the impact of the India snub, said, “It took some time and I have gone through ups and downs and I’m not worried about it now. I’ve put aside my personal side of things and I don’t take too much stress about whether I’m in the Indian team or not. There are other matches to win and it is about winning the trophies.”

In the ongoing match against West Zone, Vihari was the top scorer for the side. He scored 63 off 130 deliveries and smashed nine boundaries as his team could only post 213 in the first innings.

Coming to India’s tour of the West Indies, the Rohit Sharma-led side had an excellent show on day one of the opening Test. Riding upon a five-wicket haul from Ravichandran Ashwin, India bundled the Kraig Brathwaite-led side to 150 in a little over two sessions.

In response, the new opening pair of Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the visitors a solid start as they reached 80 without any loss at the close of play. Jaiswal – the 21-year-old talented left-handed batter – is unbeaten on 40 while his captain and fellow Mumbaikar Rohit is on 30*.
