Harrison Ford ‘joining Marvel series’ – replacing Captain America star

0

Earlier this month reports hit the internet that Marvel was circling Harrison Ford as a potential newcomer to the MCU. The 80-year-old actor was rumoured to be joining one of the new titles announced at Disney’s annual event, D23. Now, these reports have been corroborated by a number of outlets.

According to Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic Podcast, Ford is going to be joining the franchise as Thaddeus Ross. This character has been around in the MCU for years, and has even played instrumental parts in a number of conflicts.

He stepped on the neck of the Avengers in Captain America Civil War when he served them the Sokovia Accords, and his daughter had a relationship with Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk.

Ross still has a significant part in the franchise. And, going forward, he will be crucial in the events of the upcoming Captain America 4 and the recently announced Thunderbolts.

Thunderbolts is Marvel’s answer to the DC Comics series The Suicide Squad. A team of evildoers, including the new Black Widow, Yelena, Taskmaster, US Agent, and The Winter Soldier – to name a few – will go on a mission to save humanity.

They will do all of this backed by a shady government official, who will surely turn out to be Ross.

However, Ross has been played by a major actor in the past few Marvel movies: William Hurt.

Ford will reportedly be replacing Hurt after the American actor died earlier this year.

In the Marvel comic books, Ross has frequently had the alter-ego of the Red Hulk – one of Hulk’s nemeses from throughout the years.

Does this mean Ford will soon be suiting up in a hulking red outfit in the films to come?

If these reports do turn out to be true, Ford would be the only actor to have straddled three of Disney’s biggest properties.

On top of now allegedly making an appearance in the Marvel series, he recently finished up his story as Han Solo in the Star Wars saga.

Ford’s hero was killed off in 2015’s The Force Awakens, after starring in the original movie back in 1977.

When asked why he returned to the series after so many decades away, he joked that it was all about the “money”.

Ford has also just wrapped up his final film in the Indiana Jones franchise, the as-of-yet untitled fifth movie in the series.

Similar to Star Wars, Ford started playing the archaeologist back in the 1980s.
