Harry Potter Gets Studio Ghibli Style Makeover With AI

Showing what great franchises would look like with a completely different style has become a trend thanks to Artificial Intelligence, and Harry Potter is no exception. It has already been possible to show what the Wizarding World would look like as a 90s sitcom, or even as a Wes Anderson movie, and now it has become a classic of Japanese animation.

On a new post on Instagram, user @aigeneratednonsense published a series of images showing how Harry Potter would look like as a production from Studio Ghibli:

Founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki and Isao Takahata, Studio Ghibli is considered one of the most important and by many even the best animation production company of all time. Among its most notable titles are the films My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Ponyo, among many others.

Recently, they joined the long list of studios that have collaborated with Lucasfilm on some productions within the Star Wars universe, developing the short film Zen – Grogu and Dust Bunnies.

This year they will release their 25th film, titled How Do You Live? after Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 novel, although it is not a concrete adaptation of that story. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the plot follows a teenager who, after the death of his father, has no choice but to go live with his uncle and cousins.

How Do You Live? is set to hit theaters in Japan on July 14.

Harry Potter Should Definitely Have an Animated Adaptation

Warner Bros. Discovery is already developing a new adaptation of the main saga written by J.K. Rowling in series format, but the CEO of the company, David Zaslav, has already assured that it will be only the first of several productions that they have planned for the franchise.

In fact, Zaslav has already shown interest in adapting The Cursed Child, the play that follows the adventures of Harry Potter’s son alongside Draco Malfoy’s. Despite the fact that the story was not very well accepted by the fans of the literary series, the success of the play was enormous, and there is no doubt that a similar display in terms of the visual aspects could be used in the animated format, aiming even to a more childlike audience and thus introduce them to the world of Harry Potter.

Another good opportunity would be to create short films based on alternative books created by Rowling within the franchise such as The Tales of Beedle the Bard or Quidditch Through the Ages, which would be perfect to adapt into the anime format and keep expanding the franchise with different stories and characters not necessary related to Harry Potter himself.

After all, the Wizarding World is very vast and full of possible stories that could be exploited beyond the original saga, targeting different audiences and using different formats, similar to what HBO is looking to do with Game of Thrones.
