If you’re the type to spend a lot of time on the internet (who isn’t?), you’ve also probably noticed that some fans can be a little…hostile when it comes to Harry and Olivia’s relationship.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, both of them commented on the negative attention received from Harry’s fans and how it affects them.
Harry was asked to comment on “small, toxic corners of the internet” that go after people in his life, and he replied, “That obviously doesn’t make me feel good.”
“It’s obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you’re at the ransom of a corner of Twitter or something,” he said.
Harry also suggested that the negative attention is antithetical to why he pursued his career to begin with.
“I just wanted to sing,” he said. “I didn’t want to get into it if I was going to hurt people like that.”
Olivia also gave some thoughts on the more toxic corners of Harry’s fan base, suggesting that they make up a small minority of what is ultimately a positive, passionate community of “deeply loving people.”
“What I don’t understand about the cruelty you’re referencing is that that kind of toxic negativity is the antithesis of Harry and everything he puts out there,” she said.
“I don’t personally believe the hateful energy defines his fan base at all. The majority of them are true champions of kindness.”
