Tyrrell Hatton is quietly putting together a real peach of a season.
Solo second at the Players Championship, he was tied third at Wells Fargo, tied fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, shared a fifth-place finish at the Byron Nelson last week, tied sixth at the Waste Management in Phoenix and was joint seventh in Abu Dhabi. Phew, that’s some list of achievements.
All that’s missing is a victory and how sweet would it be if the 31-year-old from High Wycombe added a winning effort to his outstanding portfolio by claiming his first major at the US PGA at Oak Hill in Rochester, New York, on Sunday?
Hatton’s best finish in one of the big four tournaments is a tied fifth at the 2016 Open at Royal Troon so he’s due to finally get over the line.
He’s also extremely backable at 33/1 with Paddy Power and it won’t hurt to go each-way as they are paying out on ten places.
Scottie Scheffler is the market leader at 8/1 with Betfred after winning the Players Championship and cannot be passed over despite the single-figure price while Olympic champion Xander Schauffele is uber consistent at majors.
He has finished in the top 15 on 13 occasions and has been tied second at the 2019 Masters and 2018 Open as well as finishing tied third at the US Open four years ago.
He should improve his US PGA best of tenth at Harding Park in San Francisco in 2020 and can be followed at 16/1 with bet365 while Sam Burns is our final each-way at 40/1 with Paddy Power.
The 26-year-old from Shreveport, Louisiana, won the WGC World Match Play for us in March and can be a challenger this week if shows that mental strength rather than the meltdown he suffered when hitting a final round 78 to drop out of contention at Augusta in April. We’re backing him to get it right.
Take Tony Finau each-way to be the first-round leader at BoyleSports’ 35/1 and Tom Hoge at 5/2 with Betfair for a top-40 finish.
• Use some of the winnings from Lautaro Martinez scoring the only goal as Inter Milan reached the Champions League final at AC Milan’s expense to double up on 5/2 Brighton to win at Newcastle and 17/10 West Ham to triumph at AZ Alkmaar. A £10 outlay returns £94.50 with bet365.
• Leicester may be on a wretched Premier League losing streak but The Foxes can win the Dante Stakes at York for trainer Andrew Balding at Ladbrokes’ 7/1.
