After 10 years away from boxing, Ricky Hatton is back in the ring this Saturday evening when he takes on Marco Antonio Barrera. The Hitman will return to his home city of Manchester to take on Barrera at the AO Arena.
The Hitman’s last fight came way back in 2012, when he was defeated by Ukraine’s Vyacheslav Senchenko at the very same venue. 10 years on, the Mancunian star is back in action and will no doubt be hoping for a different outcome this time around.
Labelled Ricky ‘Fatton’ throughout his time in the spotlight, Hatton has looked to squash that stereotype this time around. The Mancunian fighter has shedded 40lbs in just two months, having gone through a remarkable body transformation.
Talking about his diet changes, he told British Boxing TV: “I like pints of beer, it has been well known, but you can’t do that. I think that is the main thing with the weight. If you go out and have pints seven days a week you won’t be walking around with a six pack.
“I think it is just sensible, eating the right things small and often and regular workouts. Some days I have thought ‘can I have a rest day?’ and then I have thought I will take my foot down on the pace and go for a run to keep a sweat on. I do two workouts a day so my metabolism is always racing.
“Cut it down on treats, I have 12 cups of tea a day normally but it has to just be a one-off.” And ahead of the weekend’s action, here is everything you need to know about Hatton’s clash with Barrera in Manchester.
