Echo and the Bunnymen had to bow out of the Cruel World festival in Pasadena due to visa issues, which greatly bummed out the Bay Area fans who made the pilgrimage down to the big ’80s new wave/post-punk/punk extravaganza on May 14-15.
Sure, those fans still got an abundance of riches at the festival — Bauhaus, Morrissey, Blondie, the English Beat, the Psychedelic Furs and so many other classic bands. But they wanted their Echo as well.
And now they are going to get it.

The acclaimed British new wave/post-punk outfit has announced plans to perform Aug. 29 at the Fox Theater in Oakland.
Tickets are $49.50-$59.50 and go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. May 20, apeconcerts.com.

The group will be out on the road celebrating its 40th anniversary.
“I can’t wait for this upcoming tour of America and Toronto,” vocalist Ian McCulloch said in a statement. “It will be a continuation of the U.K. tour we did in February/March of this year which was my favourite ever tour, and talking to fans and friends after shows and reading loads of brilliant comments from Bunnymen and Bunnywomen, all saying pretty much what I was feeling…that some new magical ingredient had been added to the starlight and the moonbeams and the angels and the devils that live inside the songs.
