There is just one more spot to fill on the World Snooker Tour for the forthcoming season after the final two tour cards were won at Asia-Oceania Q School on Monday.

Chinese talent He Guoqiang and Indian cueist Ishpreet Singh Chadha were the two players to come through on Monday in Bangkok.

22-year-old He has enjoyed some notable success already in his career, winning the 2021 Haining Snooker Open and the 2018 IBSF Under-18 World Championship, beating former pro Lei Peifan in the final.

He has also played in some pro events as a wildcard, memorably beating Gary Wilson 6-1 at the 2018 International Championship, winning six frames on the spin after losing the first, so he will certainly be a threat in his first season as a full-time pro.

It will also be the first time on the tour for Singh Chadha, the 27-year-old joining compatriot Himanshu Jain so there will be two Indian players on the main tour in the coming season.

After claiming his spot with a 4-0 win over Hon Man Chau wit hbreaks of68 and 106, Singh paid tribute to his mother and his mentor, former pro Yasin Merchant. He wrote on Instagram: ‘Impossible without the love, support and guidance of my Mother and Yasin sir.’

Malaysia’s Thor Chuan Leong and Thailand’s Manasawin Phetmalaikul came through the first Asia-Oceania Q School event, with Thor returning to the tour after dropping off in 2020 and 24-year-old Phetmalaikul, known as ‘Quid’, turning pro for the first time.

With the eight cards handed out at UK Q School – to Andrew Pagett, Alexander Ursenbacher, Liam Pullen, Andrew Higginson, Dean Young, Louis Heathcote, Stuart Carrington and Alfie Burden – there now remains just one tour card left to win.

This will be handed to the ABSC African Champion at the All Africa Snooker Championships, held in Casablanca, Morocco and coming to a close on 21 June.

The new season will then be right around the corner, with the Championship League getting underway in Leicester on 26 June and running until 21 July.
