Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed the maturity of returning youngster William Saliba after his performance against Chelsea.
The Gunners breezed past Chelsea in a 4-0 win over their Premier League rivals in a pre-season friendly over in Orlando, Florida.
The Gunners team featured the likes of new additions Gabriel Jesus – who got on the scoresheet – and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Both of them received praise from Arteta after the game, the manager is also very excited about the potential Saliba, who’s yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal despite joining them in 2019, has.
“I am really pleased to see the way he is playing, the way he has adapted to the team, the maturity that he’s shown at 21-years-old, carry on doing it.” Arteta explained.
“We will keep developing him, he has a huge potential, he is already a top player and we have to make him even better.”
And when asked whether the 21-year-old will be prepared for the new Premier League season with his young Arsenal team, Arteta confirmed: “He looked ready to me today.”
But whilst Arsenal have been praised for their preparation ahead of August, their opponents have missed out on a handful of key targets and can’t get into gear.
Chelsea finished two places and five points above the Gunners in the Premier League last term, however fans would have been forgiven for thinking the north London side finished higher than them.
And talkSPORT’s Darren Lewis gave a damning verdict on their planning for the new campaign in comparison to their competitors.
“Todd Boehly has been beaten to the punch by Barca [Barcelona] for Raphinha, beaten to the punch by Barca for Lewandowski, he’s not managed to get Nathan Ake out of Manchester City,” he explained on The Sunday Session.
“And now he’s being beaten again, it looks to be the case, by Barcelona for Jules Kounde.”
He continued: “Chelsea looked so poor, they look so unable to cope with a side, as [Thomas] Tuchel said after the match, that finished below them in the table.”
