Hearts and Hibs charged over Edinburgh derby post-match melee

Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian have been charged over a brawl that unfolded at the end of the final Edinburgh derby of the campaign.

Players and coaching staff from both clubs became involved in a stramash at the final whistle of the 1-1 draw at Tynecastle on the last day of the season.

Hibs boss Lee Johnson and defender Rocky Bushiri, and Hearts goalkeeper Ross Stewart and goalkeeping coach Paul Gallacher were all sent off following the culmination of the game for their part in the unsavoury scenes.

No individuals have been identified in the SFA charges, but the two sides could face a five-figure fine.

The charges, which pertain to breaches of disciplinary rule 204, could see the teams hit with fines ranging from £2,500 to £20,000.

The notice states: “All clubs and recognised football bodies shall procure that its officials, team staff, employees and players conduct themselves in an orderly fashion at all times during and/or after a match.

“In particular, clubs and recognised football bodies are responsible for ensuring that its officials, team staff, employees and players refrain from any one or a combination of the following; becoming involved in a confrontation; conduct that is likely to lead to or to exacerbate or prolong a hostile or argumentative situation with players and/or team staff from the opposing team and/or match officials; conduct that may otherwise
incite disorder.”

The result was enough to see the Jambos book a place in the qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League over their city rivals – who are now relying on Celtic to beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final to stand any chance of continental action next season.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 29.
