Heartstopper actor Joe Locke is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The breakout star of Netflix’s LGBTQ+ young adult drama is joining the cast of the forthcoming WandaVision spinoff series Agatha: Coven of Chaos, as Variety reported Tuesday. Kathryn Hahn will be reprising her role as the titular Agatha Harkness on the Disney+ series, but information about Locke’s character is still under wraps.
Former Buffy star Emma Caulfield Ford will also return as Dottie. Jac Schaffer, series creator of WandaVision, will serve as writer and executive producer for Coven of Chaos as well.
Locke reacted to the news with excitement, posting a screenshot of the news on Instagram and writing that he “screamed” when he “got an email which said ‘welcome to the marvel universe.’ (In an Instagram Story, he also shared the news with the now-infamous GIF of Agatha winking.)
In addition to Coven of Chaos, which is expected to premiere in late 2023, Locke will also be reprising his role as gay teenager Charlie Spring in Heartstopper, which Netflix has already renewed for two additional seasons. Production for the second season is underway, with photos of the crew filming in Paris suggesting that the Netflix adaptation will depict an eventful overseas class trip from the original webcomic.
