Australian icon John Farnham is recovering “well” after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth almost six months ago.
The 73-year-old was said to be in good spirits as he hosted a trivia game for his family over Christmas.
“The Christmas tradition of after Christmas lunch sitting outside while John hosts music trivia questions continued,” Watercooler Talent managing partner David Wilson told The Daily Telegraph.
“He was MC with the family all gathered around and we laughed as we were all tested on our musical knowledge.”
Speaking on the legend’s recovery, Wilson said “It is a process, it is slow and steady as she goes. He is going well”.
The veteran pop rock singer was diagnosed with cancer in August 2022 and required a 12-hour operation to remove the tumour from his mouth. The marathon surgery required 26 surgeons and saw part of his jaw removed.
A month after the removal of the cancerous tumour, his wife Jill confirmed it had been a success.
“His medical team are very pleased with his progress over the past month,” Jill’s statement read.
“He was moved from ICU into a general ward a couple of weeks ago and that in itself was terrific progress.
“This week John has been transferred to a rehabilitation centre. Each of these steps are moving in the right direction and for that we are enormously thankful.”
