By all accounts, the Miami Heat overachieved this season. After barely qualifying for the NBA Playoffs as the eighth seed in the East, Miami went on a miraculous run to the NBA Finals.
The Heat defeated the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks, the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics to become only the second No. 8 seed in NBA history to advance to the Finals.
Miami may have lost the Finals to the Denver Nuggets in five games, but one report suggests that they have their eye on one player in free agency to make another run next season.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Heat are interested in bringing in Kyrie Irving. Irving is a free agent, but a sign-and-trade deal with Miami sending a player to the Dallas Mavericks in return is most likely if Irving heads to Miami.
According to Charania, the Heat tried to trade for Kyrie during the 2023 trade deadline but the Mavericks presented the Brooklyn Nets with a better offer.
Given the struggles Miami experienced while trying to score points at times this season, Irving seems like a good fit for Miami on the court. He could be the team’s second option, allowing Bam Adebayo to focus more on the defensive side of the ball.
Any team that acquires Kyrie Irving is usually in for a wild ride, but if there’s any organization that can deal with what Irving brings, it’s Miami.
