The Hennessy x Yan Pei-Ming limited-edition Year of the Rabbit decanter and box
In its ongoing collaborations with contemporary artists and designers to create unique interpretations of the Hennessy Paradis carafe, the luxury French cognac brand unveiled a decanter marking the Lunar New Year with renowned Chinese artist, Yan Pei-Ming.
The decanter’s artwork honors the Year of the Rabbit with a composition by Ming named La Grande Course (The Great Race), inspired by Hennessy’s Paradis cognac, the highest expression of the brand with blends of its rarest cognacs up to 130 years old.

The decanter’s artwork is based on a monumental painting by Ming measuring 19.6 x 11.4 feet showing the rabbit, surrounded by all the other animals of the Chinese Zodiac in dynamic movement, evoking freedom and unity in its diversity.
Ming says the work’s true subject is the light the artwork captures. “When you hold a bottle of cognac up to sunlight, its hues vary so much,” he says. “I wanted to portray cognac but it’s light is really the color of this painting.”
Ming, a Chinese native who has lived in Dijon, France, since 1981, is perhaps best known for his epic-sized portraits, most notably of Mao Zedong in black and white or red and white. His other well-known oversized portraits are of Bruce Lee, Pope Jean-Paul II, Barack Obama and the Mona Lisa. He also is known for his large paintings of animals.

The inspired La Grande Course artwork is placed on hand-crafted Limoges porcelain decanters created by Maison Bernardaud, an historic French porcelain house. Limoges is a hard-paste porcelain produced by factories in and around the city of Limoges, France.
The porcelain decanter and elaborate artwork is enclosed in a hand-crafted wooden box. Upon opening the box is a triptych recreation of the original La Grande Course painting.
The Hennessy x Yan Pei-Ming collaboration cognac is available in an 888 limited-edition. In addition, versions of Ming’s La Grande Course artwork are available on the special decanters of Hennessy’s X.O and V.S.O.P cognac blends.
