Henry Cavill’s blockbuster future appears to be somewhat in a state of disarray from a fan perspective. After years of hoping, the 39-year-old returned as Superman in the Black Adam end-credits scene back in October. The star then took to social media to confirm his comeback as Clark Kent to the DC universe. However, the franchise’s new boss James Gunn is hard at work outlining where the shared narrative will go, with Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2 now looking unlikely.
The Hollywood Reporter called the Cavill situation “more than a little thorny”, especially as Black Adam 2 may now not happen and the Superman star has already shot a cameo for next year’s The Flash movie.
There have been rumblings over the last few months that the actor could be heading to Disney to join one of their franchises. Interestingly, the actor showed up at the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water this week, despite not having a connection to the movie. Or does he?
According to Giant Freakin Robot’s trusted and proven sources, Cavill is joining the cast of Avatar 4.
It’s currently not known what his role will be, so he could be a human or motion-captured Na’vi alien like Sam Worthington’s Jake.
Avatar: The Way of Water is the first of four sequels planned by director James Cameron. However, the filmmaker has admitted that Avatar 3 can be wrapped up narratively if the second film doesn’t do well enough at the box office, suggesting that Avatar 4 isn’t a shoo-in just yet. Nevertheless, he’s teased an incredible script.

Speaking with Collider, Cameron recently said: “When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, creative executive over the films wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy f**k.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?”
Avatar: The Way of Water hits cinemas on Friday, with Avatar 3 set for December 20, 2024, Avatar 4 on December 18, 2026 and Avatar 5 on December 22, 2028.
