‘Her friend was an A-grade Facebook sleuth’

Sara, 23, says:

We met at the bar. We gave each other a hug. We were both saying we felt a bit nervous. We actually had no clue about who were meeting, not even the person’s name so it wasn’t like a regular date.

We started talking and the conversation came pretty naturally. There weren’t any awkward silences. There was good banter and lots of laughs. It was easy to talk about lots of different things with him.

He’s a bartender and worked in the same area in hospitality in the past so we can kind of relate to that and shift work. I was telling him how I just came off night shift and was trying to get my body clock back to normal hours.

He’s pretty down to earth and genuine. We had similarities and I really like how into travel he is.

The date started at 7pm and ended close to 1am. We were out for ages. It was actually a really fun night.

We decided to catch an Uber and drop me to a friend’s house where I was staying, which was on the way to his house.. I called my friend to let her know we were leaving. All I said was his name and where he’s from and she found him on Facebook. I guess she’s really good at Facebook stalking. And then when the Uber driver dropped me at my friend’s house, she met Digby and it was very funny. The Uber driver was great too. I told him we were on a blind date and he was hyping us up in the car. I got a bit of life advice from him. It was really funny. He wouldn’t have thought that we were on a first date.

We’ve got each other on Facebook and swapped numbers. We spoke the next day. And he said really enjoyed the date and wanted to go on another date so we’re going axe throwing. I can’t really pick any flaws. There were no red flags so I’ll see how it goes after the second date.

Verdict: 8/10

Digby, 26, says:

I got there about 15 minutes early. If you’re not five minutes early, you’re 10 minutes late — that’s my motto. I was sitting there and I was just patiently waiting. And every person that walked past I’m like, “I wonder if that’s her?”

I was pretty nervous going into it, but it turned out to be one of the best dates I’ve been on. We got along really well and had a fantastic night. I wasn’t really sure what to expect I was like “I wonder if the person might be introverted”, but then I realised it’s not really an introvert thing to go on a blind date.

We had a drink and just got chatting. Very quickly we were very comfortable and realised how much we’ve got in common. It was fantastic.

We definitely lost track of time and the waiter had to keep coming back before we ordered.

We discussed lots of things. We talked a lot about travel. The places that we’ve been and how we grew up because she grew up in Northam and I grew up in Broome so we knew what it’s like growing up in country towns. We spoke about how we both ended up doing Blind Date.

We compared worst date stories. I think I took the cake for that one. It’s a long story, but one of my ex-girlfriends set me up and I ended up moving to London that week to get away. It was like something out of a teen movie. We both ranked this date very highly. We were saying how much of a fun evening we we’re having.

Sara messaged her friend and was like, “his name’s Digby”. Her friend was an A-grade Facebook sleuth and was able to find me and send a photo of my profile picture to Sara and was like “is this him?”

She’s a very bubbly person, very down to earth, very funny, quite gregarious. We did we swapped socials, and we’ve already planned to go on another date.

Verdict: 9/10
