Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away at the age of 96. She died at Balmoral Castle with her family by her side.
The Queen is the longest reigning monarch in British history, serving for 70 years, and surpassing the reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria on 9th September 2015.
Since taking the throne on 6th February 1952, she has been served by 15 prime ministers (from Winston Churchill at the start of her reign, to Liz Truss whom she received on 6th September 2022); has seen us through countless historic moments; and lived to celebrate her own Platinum Jubilee this year.
Concern for the Queen’s health had been growing since last year. Towards the latter half of 2021, the Queen began to pass on some royal duties to younger members of the royal family and cancel public engagements under doctors’ advice.
The Queen’s husband Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, passed away aged 99 on 9th April 2021.
We join the Royal Family, the nation, and the rest of the world in mourning our Queen.
