Here’s a look at the star behind Aegon in House of the Dragon

Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke are finally making their House of the Dragon debut as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower respectively. Young actresses Milly Alcock and Emily Carey previously played the younger versions of the characters in the first half of the season. However, they won’t be the only characters getting a change of actor with other cast members joining the show going forward.

Who plays Aegon Targaryen in House of the Dragon?

Aegon Targaryen is going to be played by newcomer Ty Tennant, the son of actors David and Georgia Tennant.

Prior to starring in House of the Dragon, Ty, 20, has featured in the film Tolkien, BBC medical soap Casualty and Around the World in 80 Days.

He also starred in the HBO Max original series Doom Patrol with a cast including Matt Bomer, Michelle Gomez, Brendan Fraser, Timothy Dalton, and Alan Tudyk.

The rising star is also part of the TV series War of the Worlds taking on the role of Tom Gresham.

Ty is Doctor Who star David’s adoptive son, while his maternal grandfather Peter Davison played the fifth Time Lord from the BBC science fiction series.

The young actor also made a small cameo in the 2013 documentary The Five(fish) Doctors.

He is not the only sibling to have followed in his parents’ footsteps, his younger sister Olive Tennant recently starred in critically-acclaimed Belfast.

House of the Dragon is likely to be his biggest role to date with the part of Aegon raise the young actor’s profile given the character is at odds with Rhaenyra.

His mother Georgia posted some shots of Ty from the House of the Dragon premiere on her Instagram account.

She captioned the snaps shared with her 262,000 followers: “#houseofthedragon #targaryen @ty_tennant_ @hbomax @skytv @houseofthedragonhbo.”

Ty appears to be good friends with his Doom Patrol co-star and Heartstopper’s Sebastian Croft with the star previously sharing some snaps of them together with his 36,000 Instagram followers.

He won’t be the only actor playing Aegon with Tom Glynn-Carney taking over the role later on, presumably as the adult version of Alicent’s first-born son.

Tom is most likely to be recognised for his roles in Christopher Nolan’s war epic Dunkirk and The King.

Interestingly, he and Ty have also shared a role before when they both played Christopher Wiseman at different ages in the film Tolkien, which focused on The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings author’s life.

Tom’s other roles include Doing Money, The Last Post, Domina, and short films Salt Water Town and Stilts.

He will next be appearing in short film Regulars which has completed filming, according to IMDb.

Additionally, he will be starring in the BBC drama SAS: Rogue Heroes which is in post-production and also stars Alfie Allen, Jack O’Connell and Connor Swindells.

On the stage, he appeared in Jez Butterworth\s The Ferryman at the Royal Court Theatre and later the Gielgud Theatre.

Along with his acting projects, he is also a singer and is the lead singer in the indie band Sleep Walking Animals.

He recently shared details about a new record from Sleep Walking Animals called Freedom Song, which came out on June 10.
