A cool history lesson
Beyond the absolutely adorable and totally delicious appeal of the Love Out Loud confection — cheesecake ice cream with a sweet strawberry swirl, sandwiched between rainbow confetti sprinkle cookies — there’s a important bit of history that’s shared.
Each sandwich is wrapped in hand-drawn illustrations honoring the fight for LGBTQ rights featuring homages to Marsha P. Johnson and the Stonewall Riots with the intention of honoring the transgender women of color who are often disregarded in stories of queer history.
According to the National Women’s History Museum, Johnson was one of the most prominent figures of the gay rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s in New York City: “Always sporting a smile, Johnson was an important advocate for homeless LGBTQ+ youth, those effected by H.I.V. and AIDS, and gay and transgender rights.” Her life ended tragically in 1991 when she was just 46 and friends strongly suspected foul play. Read more about her life on the museum’s website.
This sweet homage in the limited edition treat from Coolhaus goes along with the company’s $25,000 donation towards GLAAD’s culture-changing work to accelerate acceptance.
The Love Out Loud ice cream sammie is available nationwide through DoorDash, as well as shipping directly from Coolhaus.
