Roxy Music fans are enjoying a windfall of good fortune.
Not only can they buy tickets to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band’s hotly anticipated reunion tour — which touches down at Chase Center in San Francisco on Sept. 26 — but they can also finally listen to “The Best of Roxy Music” on vinyl
The collection, which traces highlights from the band’s influential recording career in reverse chronological order, is being released for the first time in LP format by via Virgin/UMe on Sept. 2.
And it sounds absolutely brilliant, having been remastered in half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios and pressed on glorious 180-gram vinyl.
The 2-LP set includes such favorites as “Avalon,” “Out of the Blue,” “More Than This,” “Love Is the Drug,” “Angel Eyes,” “Mother of Pearl,” “Do the Strand,” “Street Life,” “Re-Make/Re-Model,” “Virginia Plain” and “Both Ends Burning.”
The set goes for $35 and is available via roxymusic.co.uk. It’s part of a Roxy Music reissue campaign, which has also seen special edition re-releases for each of the group’s eight studio albums.
“The Best of Roxy Music” is a great way to prep for that Sept. 26 Chase Center date, which will mark the first time that the band has performed in the Bay Area since 2001. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets start at $47, ticketmaster.com.
