Here’s what you need to know about tonight’s Pink Moon (including what it means for your star sign)

Tonight (Saturday 16 April), the famous Pink Moon will be making an appearance – so we’ve gathered everything you need to know about the illumination and what it means for each of your star signs.

What is the Pink Moon?

According to Noura Bourni, Resident Astrological Guide for Saturn Returns Podcast with Caggie Dunlop, the Pink Moon is a celestial occurrence, and this April’s full moon is a lunation in the sign of Libra.

This means that the lunation will bring into focus Libra-themes such as marriage, partnerships, business contracts, and highlighting issues regarding boundaries. Good news for everyone, the commonality for all is the possibility of how we can all strive for better balance, healthier relationships and an increase in diplomacy.

Noura tells GLAMOUR, “A good way to work with the lunar energy is to spare a moment of self-reflection during each major lunation” and it can be helpful to “pay attention to dreams during this time” to unravel a common pattern during each lunar stage. We’ll definitely be giving this a try.

The Pink Moon is said to be derived from pink flowers, Phlox Subulata in particular, that start to blossom during the seasons of Spring and Summer. These are classed as a wildflower and are native to eastern North America. Supplying you with a two-in-one, the Pink Moon will also be this year’s first full moon of Spring. 

Pink Moons occur when the moon is exactly on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, creating colourful shadows. And, as a result, we are gifted with the *ultimate* social media snap of an aesthetically pleasing pink illumination. 

When can we see the Pink Moon?

On Saturday 16 April 2022, the Pink Moon can be seen rising in the UK and around the world (so make sure you’ve got your cameras ready). In London, we’ll be able to see the Pink Moon rise at 7:45 pm from the east-southeast and then set at 6:27 am the following morning in the west-southwest. Passing 5.1 degrees north of Spica (the brightest star in the constellation Virgo) the Pink Moon will reach its peak illumination at 7:55 pm – so this is your cue to go outside.
