If you don’t know, now you know: You can now wear famous pieces of art on your wrist…as your watch. Swatch, known for its art-forward, fun, quirky, maximalist, yet stylish timepieces at an affordable price point, launched a new collaboration with multiple art museums in March. And, as you’d think, everything is gorgeous.
For example, now you can wear The Birth of Venus as an accessory, or a Lichtenstein. “For this collection, we wanted to build a puzzle of elements, each representing a side of Swatch. That’s why for MoMa in NYC, we focused on Roy Lichtenstein, for the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth, which falls perfectly into the picture, but also that’s the pop side of Swatch,” said Swatch’s Creative Director, Carlo Giordanetti, while explaining the inspiration behind this new collection during the launch event at the historical Convento do Beato in Lisbon, Portugal.
The collaboration is with MoMA, Magritte, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Le Gallerie Degli Uffizi. For the piece from the Foundation of Magritte in Belgium, Swatch selected two pieces of art representing the surrealist and quirkiness side of the Swatch brand—The Son of Man and The Treachery of Images from Rene Magritte. Working closely with the Gallerie Degli Uffizzi in Italy, Swatch brought Sandro Botticell’s Allegory of Spring and The Birth of Venus 15th-century renowned pieces to life. And last but not least, they chose The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai for the collab with Louvre Abu Dhabi. All of the pieces are available now, and range in price from $95 to $105.
