THERE are so many quirky and historical places to visit in Scotland.
Thousands of tourists flock to the country’s cute seaside resorts and quaint old towns every year.
And some of those locations have been recognised in a new ranking of the UK’s most beautiful places – including the country’s most picturesque village.
Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh is the hidden gem Dean Village.
Built in the 1880s as housing for local workers, many of the original buildings remain giving a glimpse into the past just a few minutes’ walk from bustling Princes Street.
It was where milling took place in the 19th century and hidden around, visitors can spy mill stones and stone plaques decorated with baked bread and pies.

And the village – an oasis of calm in the capital – has been named in a list of the top 50 most beautiful spots alongside places like Skye, Snowdonia and the Lake District by global tourist guide Big 7 Travel.
The firm’s content writer Aleyna Yilmaz sad: “The list of must-see sights in Edinburgh is long, but Dean Village is firmly high on that list.
“In its heyday, Dean Village was a milling hotspot and leftovers from this period can still be seen everywhere paying homage to the baked bread and pies the mills gave way to.
“A stroll around Dean Village really does feel like stepping back in time.”
Other Scottish locations that make it into the top 50 are Skye, which actually claimed the number one spot, and Eoligarry, on the Isle of Barra, which came out as the most beautiful Scottish bay.
