Bravo, who is now part of the CSK coaching staff, surpassed former Mumbai Indians great Lasith Malinga to takeover the crown as highest wicket-taker in IPL during the 2022 season. While Bravo sits on top with 183 scalps, Chahal is closing in with 178 wickets to his name.
Malinga, who is also retired and part of the RR staff from 2022, had claimed 170 wickets to take the top spot in 2021, but the figure of 170 has been reached by three other bowlers and the former Sri Lankan’s position in top 5 wicket-takers list in IPL seems to be under threat.
Indian veteran spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra have all caught up with Malinga’s tally in IPL 2023. The trio of spinners have now claimed 170 wickets each, while seasoned India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and West Indies spinner Sunil Narine have also made strides.
